Deep-sea fish giving marine experts food for thought

TOYAMA, Japan - This rarely seen deep-sea fish called ''Ryugu no Tsukai'' (slender oarfish) -- or ''Messenger from the Sea God's Palace'' -- drifted ashore in Kurobe, Toyama Prefecture, in December 2009 and is now on display as a specimen at Uozu Aquarium in the same prefecture on Feb. 3, 2010.

"Golden saury"

TOKYO, Japan - Photo taken Oct. 3, 2012, shows a "golden saury" on display at Seibu department store in Tokyo's Ikebukuro district. The fish is one of two golden saury that were landed in Ofutato, Iwate Prefecture. Uoko Co. purchased the fish for 10,000 yen each at Tokyo's Tsukiji fish market and put them on display in different places in Tokyo.

Sea Shepherd forces Japan to halt this season's whaling
