KYOTO, Japan - Geisha and apprentice geisha known as maiko serve tea to visitors at an open-air tea ceremony at the Plum Blossom Festival at Kitano Tenmangu, a shrine in Kyoto, on Feb. 25, 2010. Some 1,500 red and white plum blossoms are in bloom.

      KYOTO, Japan - Four kimono-clad junior ''geisha'' entertainers, known as ''maiko'' in Kyoto, throw beans to the crowd at a festival at Yasaka Shrine in the ancient Japanese city on Feb. 2. At the ''setsubun'' festival which heralds the arrival of spring, the maiko called for the expulsion of evil and invited good fortune by scattering ''good luck'' beans to visitors reaching out to catch them.
