Less smoky steam locomotive

MAEBASHI, Japan - A D51 steam locomotive is displayed at a plant of East Japan Railway Co. in Takasaki, Gunma Prefecture, on April 28, 2010. The train operator has refurbished the 60-year-old steam locomotive so it can emit less smoke ahead of a special run for tourists planned for May and June on the tracks that have many tunnels.

                    TSURU, Japan, Dec. 19 Kyodo - Photo shows a magnetically levitated train that set a world speed record of 603 kilometers per hour in a test run conducted by Central Japan Railway Co. on April 21, 2015. The test was conducted using new LO-series cars on the track between Uenohara and Fuefuki in Yamanashi Prefecture, west of Tokyo. A maglev train service will start between Tokyo's Shinagawa Station and Nagoya in 2027.
