Stablemaster rents from man with alleged gangster links

TOKYO, Japan - Photo taken on July 21, 2010 shows a building in Osaka that sumo stablemaster Matsugane has rented from a man who has close ties with Japan's largest crime syndicate and used for training and lodging wrestlers.

Sumo: Entire stable hit by coronavirus

Photo taken in March 2014 shows stablemaster Tamanoi. The Japan Sumo Association said on Sept. 10, 2020, that 19 wrestlers from his stable tested positive for the novel coronavirus, resulting in the entire stable sitting out the Autumn Grand Sumo Tournament starting in Tokyo on Sept. 13.
