Hitachi develops technology to recycle rare earths

TOKYO, Japan - Photo taken on Dec. 6, 2010, shows separated parts of hard disk drive motors which contain rare earths in Matsudo, Chiba Prefecture. Hitachi Ltd. said it had developed technology to collect rare earths from components in electric appliances and recycle enough for about 10 percent of the group's usage from 2013.
