Ozawa spurns Kan's call to leave DPJ

TOKYO, Japan - Former Democratic Party of Japan leader Ichiro Ozawa enters the prime minister's office in Tokyo for a one-on-one meeting with Prime Minister Naoto Kan, current head of the DPJ, on Feb. 10, 2011. Ozawa said after their hourlong meeting he was urged by Kan to voluntarily leave the ruling party following his indictment last week over a funds scandal. DPJ Secretary General Katsuya Okada said the same day that Ozawa had refused to do so voluntarily and that the party will begin the process of taking punitive action against Ozawa on Monday.
