Akasaka Prince hotel holds farewell events

TOKYO, Japan - Visitors to Tokyo's Grand Prince Hotel Akasaka view photos on Feb. 9, 2011, at an exhibit showing the history of the hotel, which was one of the trendiest spots in town during the 1980s when Japan's economy boomed. The hotel is holding a series of farewell events ahead of its closure at the end of March.

High-end Tokyo hotel to shelter nuclear evacuees

The hotel, which was considered ultra-chic in the 1980s, will be used as an evacuation center until the end of June for evacuees from Fukushima Prefecture affected by the March 11 quake-triggered troubles at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant.

Photo exhibition on Japan in Switzerland

LUGANO, Switzerland - Visitors look at photos capturing life in Japan around the end of the Edo period (1603-1867) and the early Meiji period (1868-1912) at an exhibition in Lugano, southern Switzerland, on Feb. 1, 2011. Some 200 photos at the exhibition, which runs through Feb. 27, include those taken by well-known photographers Felice Beato, Kimbe Kusakabe and others. The photos, which were originally black and white, were later hand-colored.
