300-strong Taiwan tourism delegation visits Hokkaido

SAPPORO, Japan - Wang Jin-pyng (R), president of Taiwan's Legislative Yuan or parliament, and Hokkaido Gov. Harumi Takahashi shake hands in Sapporo, the capital of the northernmost island prefecture of Japan, on May 12, 2011. A 300-strong Taiwan tourism delegation led by Wang arrived in Hokkaido the same day to help rehabilitate Japan's tourism industry, which has been hit hard by the March 11 earthquake, tsunami and subsequent nuclear crisis. Taiwan is Hokkaido's top source of foreign tourists, accounting for almost a quarter of all foreign visitors.
