LDP's Maruyama not to run in Osaka gubernatorial race
TOKYO, Japan - Kazuya Maruyama, a Liberal Democratic Party member of the House of Councillors, is seen in a press conference he held in Tokyo on Nov. 1, 2011, to announce his decision not to run in the Osaka gubernatorial election on Nov. 27. The lawyer-turned-politician, widely known after appearing regularly on a TV variety show featuring lawyers, had expressed a willingness to run in the election to succeed outgoing Gov. Toru Hashimoto, who also became a politician after gaining popularity by appearing in the same show as a lawyer.
