Commemorating war dead on Iwoto Island

TOKYO, Japan - Participants of a ceremony including kin of Japanese soldiers who perished in the World War II battle on Iwoto Island offer flowers to commemorate them on the island on Jan. 25, 2012. The annual ceremony by the Tokyo metropolitan government is usually held in spring or summer but the fiscal 2011 ceremony was postponed due to a water shortage on the Pacific island, about 1,200 kilometers south of central Tokyo, and the March 2011 earthquake and tsunami.
