China's natural gas extraction in East China Sea
NAHA, Japan - Photo taken Feb. 9, 2012, from a plane chartered by Kyodo News shows a flare (far L) from the tip of a pipe in a natural gas extraction facility in a gas field known as Kashi in Japan and Tianwaitian in China, near what Tokyo claims to be the median line between the overlapping exclusive economic zones of Japan and China in the East China Sea. On Jan. 31, Japan protested against China possibly drilling for natural gas in the East China Sea, arguing that the move violates their agreement to jointly develop gas resources in the disputed area.
