Foxter's Hybrid Image Processing System for AI Visual Inspection

Foxter Corporation (Toyonaka City, Osaka Prefecture) will release in May a hybrid image processing system that combines Preferred Networks' (PFN, Chiyoda Ward, Tokyo) artificial intelligence (AI) visual inspection and conventional image processing methods.The company will market the system in Japan and China in cooperation with a subsidiary of the OPTEX Group, which is engaged in the manufacture of lighting for image processing, in terms of sales and service. The sales target is 200 units a year. Auto parts manufacturers and others have already begun to introduce the system on a trial basis. Forest Sea's long-range wireless terminal "Geochat".

Forest Sea (Koto-ku, Tokyo) will launch a long-range wireless terminal called "Geochat" this fall to prevent mountain climbers and forestry workers from getting lost. It is capable of two-way communication of up to 200 kilometers in a clear environment with no obstacles. Even when cell phones are out of range, such as in mountainous areas, workers can carry the terminal to send location information and emergency requests. The company is aiming for sales of more than 5 billion yen in the communication terminal business in five years. 920 megahertz (mega means one million) band radio waves with an output of 250 milliwatts will be transmitted over a long distance. It can reach more than 200 kilometers in a clear environment. City in Tottori rents out EV with comic paintings

YONAGO, Japan - The city government of Yonago in Tottori Prefecture began renting out to visitors for free an electric vehicle with comic paintings on its body on Jan. 31, 2012. The municipal government offers the use of the car, which has a painting of comic girls and 10 local tourist spots, to promote the 13th International Comic Artist Conference to be held in November 2012 in the prefecture. Such cars called ''itasha,'' typically with paintings of animation characters, are popular among some young Japanese.

China OKs Toyota's plan for joint venture with Chinese firm

NAGOYA, Japan - China has approved a plan by Toyota Motor Corp. to build passenger cars in collaboration with a Chinese automaker in the northern Chinese city of Tianjin, Toyota President Fujio Cho (L) says in Nagoya on May 29. Toyota's plan to form a joint venture with Tianjin Automobile Xiali Corp. for the manufacture of up to 30,000 compact cars a year has been given the green light by China's Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation, Toyota said.

Test of electronic tolling system begins on Chiba highways

KISARAZU, Japan - Two expressway operators on April 24 jointly begin test use of an electronic tolling system that allows vehicles to pass through tollgates without stopping. Under the system, users insert their credit cards into a device installed in their cars. The device and antennas at the tollgates exchange information by radio signals, allowing the drivers to pay later with their cards.
