Train model museum in Yokohama

YOKOHAMA, Japan - Visitors look at a railway diorama covering about 310 square meters, one of the largest in the world, at the Hara Model Railway Museum in Yokohama on July 10, 2012. The museum, which opened the same day, features a vast collection of works by Nobutaro Hara, known for his meticulously crafted models of trains from around the world.

The "Plarail 60th Anniversary Exhibition," which is being held by TOMY at the Railway Museum (Omiya-ku, Saitama City) untilSeptember 1, is a great success. Plarail was launched in 1959 as a toy made of plastic, the latest material at the time, when metal and wooden toys were the mainstream. As of the end of January 2007, a cumulative total of about 1,480 types and more than 169 million units have been sold in Japan.                 Sand Festa kicks off in Kagoshima

                MINAMISATSUMA, Japan, May 1 Kyodo - Photo taken May 1, 2015, shows a sand sculpture themed on an advance in railway technology, with a steam locomotive (L) emerging from a tunnel and a shinkansen bullet train (R) climbing skyward, displayed at the annual Sand Festa that began the same day near a dune in Minamisatsuma, Kagoshima Prefecture in southwestern Japan.
