Japan-linked monument vandalized
XIAN, China - Photo shows a stone monument dedicated to a Japanese envoy to Tang Dynasty China vandalized with what appears to be paint in a park in the ancient city of Xian, China, on Oct. 7, 2012. The defacement of the monument commemorating Abe no Nakamaro is believed to occurred in protest at the Japanese government's decision in mid-September to bring under state control a group of islands in the East China Sea that both Tokyo and Beijing claim sovereignty over.
