Protest against Osprey deployment

GINOWAN, Japan - Photo taken from a Kyodo News helicopter on Dec. 23, 2012, shows participants in a rally in Ginowan, Okinawa Prefecture, to protest the deployment of the Osprey tilt-rotor transport aircraft at the U.S. Marine Corps' Futenma Air Station in the city. They also protested a long-stalled plan to relocate the base within Okinawa, and a spate of recent incidents in Okinawa involving U.S. servicemen, which has rekindled local anger against U.S. troops stationed there.

A ceremony marking the opening in July of the base, built to host the GSDF's fleet of V-22 Osprey aircraft, was held the same day, with the 17 aircraft already transferred from Camp Kisarazu in Chiba Prefecture near Tokyo.
