Algeria hostage crisis site
IN AMENAS, Algeria - Cylinders stand charred at a gas facility in In Amenas, eastern Algeria, on Jan. 31, 2013, as the Algerian government shows the site of a recent hostage crisis to the media for the first time since the incident. Islamist militants attacked the facility on Jan. 16, with the crisis ending violently four days later after the Algerian government decided to launch a full-scale assault. Thirty-seven foreign nationals who were held hostage and 29 militants died during the crisis.
