Japan, Taiwan local railways tie up

KUROBE, Japan - Chang Bin (L), general secretary of Taiwan's Forestry Bureau, and Kazuhiko Kato, president of Japan's Kurobe Gorge Railway Co., hold a commemorative steam locomotive model in Kurobe, Toyama Prefecture, on April 20, 2013. Kurobe Gorge Railway and Taiwan's Alishan Forest Railway have established sister-railway relations, aimed at promoting tourism and cooperation in maintaining their railroads, which are both located in mountainous areas.

      TONO, Japan - The steam locomotive-led "SL Ginga" (SL Milky Way) crosses a bridge on JR Kamaishi Line in Tono, Iwate Prefecture, northeastern Japan, on April 12, 2014, as East Japan Railway Co. started operating the train for limited service as part of efforts to help restoration in areas affected by the 2011 earthquake and tsunami disaster.

        TOYAMA, Japan - Tourists enjoy the scenic view from a trolley train which the Kurobe Gorge Railway Co. began operating partially April 20 for this season in Toyama Prefecture, central Japan. The 20.1 kilometer railway between Unazuki and Keyakidaira will fully open May 1.
