Japan Diet enacts controversial secrecy law
TOKYO, Japan - Lawmakers of the ruling block clap their hands after the House of Councillors enacted a controversial law to prevent leaks of state secrets during a plenary session in Tokyo on the night of Dec. 6, 2013. The ruling coalition forced it through the upper house without bridging a gap with the opposition camp over an independent oversight system to ensure the public's right to know.
