Japan, Indonesia end aluminum venture

JAKARTA, Indonesia - Nippon Asahan Aluminium Co. President Yoshihiko Okamoto (L) and Indonesian Industry Minister Mohamad Suleman Hidayat sign an agreement in Jakarta on Dec. 9, 2013. The Japanese consortium and the Indonesian government formally terminated a contract under which they cooperated to run aluminum production company PT Indonesia Asahan Aluminium, or Inalum.

The merger next April will give birth to Japan's largest petroleum company to top the present industry leader Idemitsu Kosan Co. in terms of sales and market share.
