Plastics sail for next-generation freighters
SASEBO, Japan - A 20-meter-tall, 8-meter-wide sail made of reinforced plastics is tested on land in the port city of Sasebo, Nagasaki Prefecture, on Jan. 25, 2014. It has been developed by the University of Tokyo and collaborators from the shipping and shipbuilding industry for cutting cost in maritime transportation. The group is planning to test the prototype sail on the sea as early as October.
