Controversial gourmet comics

TOKYO, Japan - Photo shows a long-running gourmet comic called "Oishinbo" in the editions for release on April 28 (R), 2014, and on May 19 (L), 2014, of the Big Comic Spirits, a weekly Japanese comic magazine, that was released. After a wave of criticism over depictions of the situation at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear complex in the comic in the edition released on April 28, Shogakukan Inc., the publisher of the magazine, accepted the criticism in the edition released on May 19.

Murakami's new short story collection

TOKYO, Japan - Photo shows a copy of Japanese novelist Haruki Murakami's latest work, a collection of short stories entitled "Onna no Inai Otokotachi" -- which can be translated as "Men Without Women" -- at the Kinokuniya bookstore in Tokyo's Shinjuku Ward in the early hours of April 18, 2014, soon after its release at midnight. Publisher Bungeishunju Ltd. said 300,000 copies have already been printed due partly to the strength of pre-orders.
