Ex-swimmer to aid female athletes with medical knowledge

TOKYO, Japan - Yuko Sakurama, senior manager of the brand-new Japanese Center for Research on Women in Sport at Juntendo University, says in an interview on Aug. 18, 2014, that she will support Japanese female athletes for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games with her medical knowledge and experience as a former top swimmer.

Supporters of former sex slaves urge gov't to apologize, compensate

TOKYO, Japan - Representatives from the Center for Research and Documentation on Japan's War Responsibility, Women's Active Museum on War and Peace, and Violence Against Women in War-Network Japan meet the press in Tokyo on July 31, after submitting a joint proposal to the government urging Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to clearly apologize and compensate the victims of Japan's sexual enslavement during World War II. The move came a day after the U.S. House of Representatives passed a resolution urging Japan to ''formally acknowledge, apologize and accept historical responsibility in a clear and unequivocal manner'' over the sex slave issue.
