AKITA, Japan - Female workers at Hamanoya, a long-established Japanese restaurant in Akita, northeastern Japan, put mashed rice from a new crop onto skewers on Sept. 23, 2014, to produce "Kiritanpo" rice sticks for use in a traditional pot dish.
