Mosquitoes tested for dengue fever in western Japan

KOBE, Japan - Mosquitoes are captured at a park in Nishinomiya, Hyogo Prefecture, on Oct. 7, 2014, for testing following a report that a woman is suspected of having been infected with dengue fever in the western Japan city in what could be the first case of the fever outside the Tokyo metropolitan area since its outbreak there.

                NAGATO, Japan - Local officials of the western Japan prefecture of Yamaguchi prepare to cull around 37,000 chickens before dawn on Dec. 30, 2014, at a farm where a bird flu outbreak was confirmed. It was the third avian influenza case of the winter at a chicken farm in Japan, after the city of Miyazaki in southwestern prefecture announced a confirmed case the previous day.
