YAMAGUCHI, Japan - An old steam locomotive regains its original luster thanks to repair work by volunteers at a park in Sanyo-Onoda, Yamaguchi Prefecture, western Japan, on Nov. 16, 2014. Local children used to call the engine a "ghost loco" due to its serious damage from long exposure to weather.

The train, named after "Gingatetsudo no Yoru (Night On The Milky Way Train)" written by Kenji Miyazawa, runs on weekends and holidays. Miyazawa, the late poet and author of children's literature, was born in Hanamaki in 1896.

                  YAMAGUCHI, Japan - The steam locomotive "SL Yamaguchi" resumes roundtrip service between Shin-Yamaguchi and Jifuku stations on the JR Yamaguchi Line in Yamaguchi Prefecture on March 21, 2014. The train had operated service only one way between these stations from November 2013 after services on the line were partially suspended due to torrential rain damage sustained in July 2013.
