Experts tout hula dance to prevent dementia
IWAKI, Japan - Emiko Ono, one of the first hula dancers in the 1960s at an amusement park now known as Spa Resort Hawaiians in Iwaki, Fukushima Prefecture, receives a bouquet from one of her former dance students in the northeastern Japan city on Nov. 24, 2014, during an event to promote awareness of dementia. The main character in the award-winning 2006 movie "Hula Girls" was modeled after Ono, who now suffers from dementia at age 70.
