Radioactive waste container undergoes test in tunnel
SAPPORO, Japan - A Japan Atomic Energy Agency staff member checks a facility for testing the endurance of a container for highly radioactive waste at an underground research center in Horonbe in Japan's northernmost prefecture of Hokkaido on Jan. 15, 2015. The five-year test is designed to check the impact of high-temperature radioactive waste on the container, a clay buffer wrapped around the container, and the water it is immersed in.
