China farm land long contaminated with cadmium
SANHE, China - In this photo taken in December, 2014, villagers of Sanhe village in China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region show swollen hands suspected of being caused by cadmium and other pollutants. Since the mid-1950s, a state-run company has mined lead and zinc in the area and there is evidence that the local water source has been polluted by waste from the mining operations.
