Japan to ask UNESCO to list remote islands, Christian sites
TOKYO, Japan, Jan. 20 Kyodo - File photo taken in June 2016 in Kunigami village in Japan's southernmost island prefecture of Okinawa shows an Okinawa rail, a rare bird species living there. Tokyo will submit a proposal to UNESCO to add a number of islands in the country's southwest, including those of Okinawa, and a number of sites linked to the history of persecuted Christians to the natural and cultural sites on the World Heritage list.
