Oscar-winning actress Umeki dies in U.S.
NEW YORK, United States - Actress Miyoshi Umeki (file photo), who in 1957 became the first Japanese performer to win an Oscar, died of cancer Aug. 28 at a nursing home in Missouri, foreign media reported. Umeki, known as Nancy Umeki in Japan, won an Oscar for a supporting role in the 1957 U.S. film ''Sayonara.''
