Toyo Univ. leads after 1st day of Tokyo-Hakone ekiden

HAKONE, Japan - Toyo University anchor Ryuji Kashiwabara cuts the tape in Hakone, Kanagawa Prefecture, on Jan. 2, 2012, after pacing his team to a commanding lead of more than 5 minutes after the first day of the Tokyo-Hakone collegiate ekiden relay race. Kashiwabara and his four teammates covered the 108-kilometer course from Tokyo's Otemachi district to the spa resort of Hakone in a record 5 hours, 24 minutes, 45 seconds.
