Man finds E. Asia's oldest alligator fossil in Shimane

MATSUE, Japan - Photo taken Sept. 25, 2013, shows Shigenori Kawano, researcher at Shimane Nature Museum of Mt. Sanbe, with East Asia's oldest fossil of a giant alligator dating from around 20 million years ago, at the museum in Oda, Shimane Prefecture. In mid-July the same year, Kawano found the fossil of the backbone of a giant alligator estimated to be as large as 7 meters long on Oki Island in the prefecture.
