Japan hints at 'tough' step, doubts N. Korean evidence

TOKYO, Japan - Chief Cabinet Secretary Hiroyuki Hosoda suggested at a news conference at the prime minister's office on Dec. 24 the Japanese government's intention to take a ''tough step'' if North Korea fails to sincerely respond to the questions Tokyo has raised over the material evidence and information the North provided in November concerning 10 Japanese citizens recognized by Tokyo as abduction victims.
