STORYLINE:
December 31 marks not only the end of 2022, but also the end of the French fuel subsidy. From the first hours of 2023, the price of a full tank of petrol or diesel will increase.
The fuel subsidy took effect in September, reducing the fuel price by 30 cents a liter until mid-November and by 10 cents thereafter.
SOUNDBITE 1 (French): HENRI, Resident
"I think it is regrettable that the government is ending its support for fuel. It should continue to provide this support to all taxpayers. Because with today's geopolitical and macroeconomic factors, indicators show that it should continue its support because the conflict is far from over."
