STORYLINE:
Egypt's Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly announced on Saturday that goods worth over 1.2 billion U.S. dollars have been released at ports between Dec. 24 to 30, as part of the government's ongoing efforts to resolve the imports backlog.
Last week, the Egyptian Cabinet announced plans to release goods at the ports, especially food products, medicine, and manufacturing components necessary for production, which have been stuck at ports for months due to a shortage in foreign currency.
According to the cabinet statement, Egypt successfully released about 5 billion dollars worth of goods at the ports from early December to Dec. 23.
