After a three-year financial crisis that plunged the Lebanese into despair and hopelessness, many people are incapable of feeling the joy of the New Year holiday.

"The atmosphere is great and nice but the situation in the country does not allow one to enjoy. The dollar, as you can see, goes up and down, and nobody knows what to do. You go into a shop and buy a box of cigarettes for 20,000 Lebanese pounds, and the next day you buy it for 25,000 Lebanese pounds. It goes the same for fuel, transport cost and all. You cannot really feel your happiness 100 percent."
