The Tunisian Interior Ministry stated on Friday that the losses caused by traffic accidents in the country averaged about 5.6 percent of the gross domestic product in the last few years.
A report issued by the ministry on Friday said that traffic safety has become the focus of Tunisians' attention, as traffic accidents have caused huge losses of life and property to the country.
According to the report, as of Dec. 23, 2022, the ministry registered a total of 5,353 traffic accidents throughout the year, an increase of 7 percent over 2021. It also registered a total of 1,014 people killed and 5,353 injured in traffic accidents.
The ministry stressed that the government will work together with various non-governmental organizations to reduce the occurrence of road accidents.
