D. T. Suzuki's calligraphy found in elementary school in Kanazawa

Photo taken on Jan. 11, 2023, shows calligraphy written by Daisetz Teitaro Suzuki (1870-1966), a prominent Japanese Buddhist philosopher best known as D. T. Suzuki, in the 1950s and discovered in 2021 on a bookshelf in the principal's office at an elementary school in Kanazawa, Ishikawa Prefecture in central Japan. The calligraphic writing shows Zen terms meaning "there is only one person in the world." Suzuki, a scholar and author of books on Buddhism and Zen that helped spread interest in their teachings to the West, never worked as a calligrapher but may have done such calligraphic works upon request.
