STORYLINE:
The Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade in Egypt said on Monday the government will start selling discounted bread to people not enrolled in its bread subsidy program as it battles accelerating inflation.
Minister of Supply and Internal Trade Ali al-Moselhy said citizens will be able to buy 90 grams of loaves at cost price using pre-paid cards, adding the price is yet to be decided but would be less than 1 Egyptian pound (about 0.034 U.S. dollars), with a trial period starting on Wednesday.
Moselhy said the measure aims to make this important commodity available without any exaggeration in profits by commercial bakeries.
