STORYLINE:
Malaysia's construction sector rebounded by 8.8 percent in 2022 after a two-year fall, official data showed Wednesday.
The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) said in a statement that all sub-sectors picked up during the year with a double-digit growth recorded in special trade activities (19.6 percent) and non-residential buildings (18.7 percent).
In the meantime, the civil engineering and residential buildings sub-sectors turned around to positive growth of 2.7 percent and 3.4 percent, respectively.
While the total value of work done in construction in 2022 amounted to 121.9 billion ringgit (28.35 billion U.S. dollars), it remained lower than the pre-pandemic period, which was 146.4 billion ringgit (34.06 billion dollars) in 2019.
