People gather at the Sheikh Abdul Qadir al-Gilani Mosque in Baghdad at sunset to receive free food for Iftar, the fast-breaking meal, during the holy month of Ramadan.
During Ramadan, Muslims refrain from eating and drinking from dawn to dusk. They break their fast with dates and water after sunset and gather to enjoy various dishes with their families.
"We have been offering these free meals for years, as people gather at the time of breaking the fast in Ramadan to enjoy Iftar meals. We feel that such an initiative can enhance social solidarity and push people to cooperate," said Abu Yahya, 50, one of the cooks who prepare free Iftar meals at the mosque.
