China's retail sales of consumer goods went up 5.8 percent year on year in the first quarter of this year, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said Tuesday.

"Market sales recovered fast and upgraded goods increased largely in the first quarter.
The total retail sales of consumer goods reached 11,492.2 billion yuan (about 1.67 trillion U.S. dollars), up by 5.8 percent year on year."
In March alone, retail sales jumped 10.6 percent year on year, data from the NBS showed.
