STORYLINE:
The Chinese Consulate General in Chiang Mai confirmed on Wednesday that the female giant panda living in Chiang Mai Zoo had passed away at the age of 21.
The consulate general said in a statement that Chiang Mai Zoo has informed them of the death of Lin Hui, and a joint investigation by both Chinese and Thai experts will be launched to find out the cause of Lin Hui's death as soon as possible.
The giant panda showed signs of sickness on Tuesday. The zoo closely monitored Lin Hui's condition and sought guidance for treatment from experts of the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda, according to the statement.
Lin Hui was born in September 2001 and arrived in Chiang Mai from China in October 2003. She enjoyed great popularity in Thailand
