This marked the highest since the country lifted its pandemic-prompted ban on individual and non-prearranged trips last October, the Japan National Tourism Organization said. Despite signs of recovery, the monthly figure was still 34.2 percent lower than the level seen in March 2019 before the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, according to the organization. It said arrivals from South Korea comprised the largest number of visitors totaling 568,600 in March, while the number of U.S. visitors stood at 203,000.
