Mango Harvest
Mango orchard lessees in West Bengal have started harvesting mangoes fearing damage to the fruit during the impending cyclone Mocha. They fear hailstorms, and cyclones like Mocha can heavily damage their orchards. Green mangoes of ''Gopalbhog'', ''Himsagar'', ''Khirsapat'', ''Langra'' varieties would not be sold raw in the markets and are not profitable also. The cyclone, which is expected to make landfall on Sunday, is expected to bring strong winds and heavy rains from Saturday evening. Mango is the most important fruit of West Bengal state occupying about 80.90 thousand hectares which is more than 41 percent of the total area under fruits. Numerous cultivars are grown in most of the districts of the state. This photo was taken in a forest at Tehatta, West Bengal; India on 13/05/2023. (Photo by Soumyabrata Roy/NurPhoto)
