STORYLINE:
After being ostracized for 12 years, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad made a comeback to the Arab League (AL) Summit held in the Saudi city of Jeddah on Friday.
This comes amid a growing Arab reconciliation trend at a time when the U.S. influence wanes in the Middle East.
Syria was suspended from the Arab League in 2011 when the Syrian civil war broke out.
Osama Danura, a Damascus-based Syrian political expert, says the return of Syria to the Arab fold symbolizes the independence and solidarity among Arab countries.
