The wax apple (Syzygium samarangense) known as Java apple, Semarang rose-apple, and wax jambu is a tropical fruit that belongs to the genus Syzygium in the family Myrtaceae and is mostly cultivated in Malaysia. The Malaysian climate is suitable for wax apple production but there is increasing concern about the fruit growth, development, and quality of wax apple, a widely cultivated fruit tree in South East Asia. The growth and development of this fruit are sometimes very low due to low photosynthates supply at early growth stages. Wax apple is popular in Southeast Asia and produces red, pink, and green fleshy fruits known as 'Masam manis pink' and 'Jambu madu red' etc. The fruits are eaten raw with salt or cooked as a sauce.
