STORYLINE:
A groundbreaking ceremony was held in the Brazilian state of Bahia on Monday to kick-start the construction of a section of a west-east railway in the country.
The first section of the FIOL railway is undertaken by a Chinese company.
The FIOL has a total operating length of around 1,500 km.
The section undertaken by the Chinese company is 126 km, which is expected to become operational in 2026.
At the ceremony, Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva said that the construction of the railway will generate more job opportunities and boost economic growth.
