Local authority in East Java, Indonesia has set an emergency status following the flood and landslide hit Lumajang Regency on Friday.
National Disaster Mitigation Agency Center on Saturday said the emergency status aimed to accelerate the response in affected locations. According to the agency, three people died and six bridges were broken due to the flood of cold lava runoff from its nearby volcano, Mount Semeru. The flood and landslide also forced more than 500 people to take refuge in the shelters.
Authorities have deployed heavy equipment to open access to the isolated location. The disaster mitigation agency of Lumajang stated it managed to open access at KM 59 on the Lumajang-Malang road.
