The finding was recently published in the scientific journal ZooKeys. 17-year-old Zhang Yixuan, a nature and biology enthusiast, found several crabs exhibiting unique characteristics when exploring a stream in Rongxian County last year. Upon careful observation and extensive literature review, Zhang suspected that he found a previously unidentified crab species due to distinct differences in their morphology. Zhang then contacted Zou Jiexin, an expert from Nanchang University, who, after conducting an investigation into the crab's habitat, origin, and genetic information, confirmed it as a new species: Sinolapotamon cirratum sp.nov.
